Options for charities and causes in memory of Dr. Aung:

There were lots of causes that were important to Dr. Aung during his life. In lieu of flowers, the Aung family is providing a curated list of charities &/or causes that can be made in Dr. Aung's memory.

1) Humanitarian organizations to help the people of Myanmar
Partners Relief & Development - a Canadian humanitarian organization with a long history of supporting children and communities affected by conflict and oppression in Myanmar and refugee camps on the Thai-Myanmar border.

2) Edmonton Chinese Garden Society
Dr. Aung was always very active in all fundraising efforts to further develop the Edmonton Chinese Garden in its various phases. The society is currently raising funds for construction of the new Moon Gate Wall.

3) For nearly 2 decades, Dr. Aung helped publish annual calendars showcasing his calligraphy and Chinese paintings in support of the Arts & Humanities in Health and Medicine Program in the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Alberta. He fully supported the program's initiative to promote the balance of science and the humanities within the faculty.

4) For years, Dr. Aung conducted his Qi Gong workshops at Hollyhock - a retreat centre on Cortes Island that curates, creates and hosts meaningful programs to inspire personal growth for social transformation. He was a strong believer in self-cultivation and would be happy to see this retreat centre continue this initiative.

5) Being of Buddhist faith, Dr. Aung would be happy for donations to be made to any of Edmonton's Buddhist temples to promote Buddhism locally. The temples listed below reflect those with which Dr. Aung had more actively engaged with during his life:
