All are welcome to join Dr. Aung at the Music as Medicine Symposium hosted by University of Alberta's Integrative Health Institute (IHI). This enlightening symposium is intended to bring together a coalition of scholars, health care providers, music therapists, artists, and students from across the province to learn about the different applications of music for healing. Dr. Aung will be doing a presentation titled, "Open Heart Laughing Qi Gong for Healing".

The relationship between music and health has been well established across a range of medical fields and cultures. Music interventions range from listening to, performing, or dancing to music, individually or socially, in both clinical and community settings. The effects of music interventions have been assessed across a wide span of patient populations including oncology and mental health, in both children and adults. Music as medicine draws from a range of fields including music therapy, music performance and composition, dance, ethnomusicology, cognitive/neuroscience, psychology, health/medicine and education. As such, music interventions have been shown to enhance mental, physical, social, and spiritual well-being. This symposium will bring eight speakers from a variety of backgrounds to discuss their perspectives of music as medicine and present on their work in this space.
