My heartfelt healing and blessings to all of you and your families during this uncertain and unsettling time during the COVID-19 pandemic. I have great faith that an emerging unity of the human spirit, love, and human determination will reveal new possibilities for healing and health.

Like the fragrant Lotus that emerges from the mud, the beautiful compassion and resilience of Mother Earth will again blossom and this storm will end. After a storm, there is light. Wellness will return as we open our hearts. Please know my heart, spirit and blessings are with you all. Together we are a healthy world.

 Sincerely yours with Mettã,
Dr. Steven K.H. Aung

The Medical Acupuncture Program (MAP), under the Division of Continuous Professional Learning, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry (University of Alberta) was one of the few university academic-based medical acupuncture training programs in North America. The intensive 200 credit hour graduate-level program was designed to provide a stringent, controlled, structured scientific program of study in Traditional Chinese Medicine theory and clinical practices as it related to medical acupuncture and modern biomedicine. Instruction was provided through lectures, workshops, demonstrations, clinical practice and examinations. The program was designed to be taken on a part-time basis and was completed in nine months. It was presented in four modules (levels), each worth 50 credit hours. Each module consisted of two 3-day weekend sessions (Friday through Sunday) held approximately one month apart.

Admission to the program was restricted to licensed:

  • Physicians
  • Dentists
  • Physiotherapist
  • Occupational Therapists
  • Chiropractors

The program was originally developed for the University of Alberta by Dr. Aung in 1991 under the Faculty of Extension and was then subsequently offered by the Division of Continuous Professional Learning, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry in 2010. During its development, Dr. Aung played a major role as the program’s chief instructor, examiner and curriculum consultant.

** Note: The Medical Acupuncture Program ceased being offered by the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry (U of A) in 2013.**
