Forum Topic: Zithromax for NGU – Treatment and Advice
User1234: Hey everyone! I was just diagnosed with NGU (Nongonococcal Urethritis) by my doctor. They prescribed me Zithromax, but I'm not sure about it. Anyone here had experience with this treatment? How effective is it?
HealthyHaven: @User1234 Hi there! Yes, I've been through a similar situation before. NGU can be really uncomfortable and annoying to deal with. I was also prescribed Zithromax (azithromycin), which is a commonly used antibiotic for this condition. It's generally very effective if you catch it early on.
User1234: @HealthyHaven Thank you so much for your response! That’s reassuring to hear. Do you have any advice on how long it took to feel better after taking the medication?
WiseOne789: Hey, @User1234 – I had NGU a few months back and my doc prescribed Zithromax too. It worked well for me. In most cases, people start feeling relief within 3-5 days. However, it's important to complete the entire course of antibiotics as directed by your doctor to ensure that all the bacteria are eliminated.
User1234: @WiseOne789 That’s great to know! Do you think it’s necessary to take a full course if symptoms start disappearing earlier?
HealthyHaven: @User1234 I wouldn't recommend stopping before completing your prescribed dose, even if the symptoms improve. Bacteria can sometimes persist at low levels and cause a relapse or develop resistance if not fully eliminated.
User1234: Thanks for the advice! One more thing – how about side effects? Did you experience any?
WiseOne789: @User1234 Some minor side effects are common with Zithromax, like nausea and diarrhea. I experienced a bit of both but it was manageable. Stomach issues usually get better after the first day or two. Drinking plenty of water can help manage these symptoms.
HealthyHaven: Absolutely agree! @WiseOne789 nailed it. If you experience severe side effects, like persistent nausea, vomiting, or allergic reactions such as hives, consult your doctor right away. They may need to adjust the treatment plan.
User1234: Thanks for all this helpful information, @HealthyHaven and @WiseOne789! I'm feeling more confident about starting my medication now. I’ll make sure to finish the entire course as advised by my doctor.
HealthyHaven: You're welcome, @User1234! If you have any other questions or if anything else comes up during your treatment, feel free to ask us here on the forum. We’re all in this together!
WiseOne789: Absolutely! Take care and get well soon.
